SAVANNAH

As January drew to a close, Feadship finally unveiled their highly anticipated 83.5 meter project Savannah, based on the aptly named 2010 Feadship concept Breathe. The fundamental aim of the project was to significantly reduce energy consumption through an innovative propulsion arrangement and efficient hull configuration. A challenging task in which Feadship, once again, boldly succeeded.

Instead of the regularly used twin screw propulsion system Savannah is equipped with a single medium speed Wartsila engine with a single variable pitch propeller shaft down the centreline. This is then combined with the incredibly complex electro – mechanical propulsion platform that is powered by Li-ion batteries. Interestingly the propeller itself is also 40% larger than the conventional propellers found on the majority of yachts of this size.

Following her extensive sea trials it quickly became public knowledge that the debut of this technology to the industry is certainly an important movement with significant improvements on not only energy consumption, but also maneuverability and speed.

The striking appearance of the vessel is another aspect, which confirms that Feadship’s contemporary movement is very much underway. Savannah’s ‘sea foam metallic green’ demands ample attention and the unique colour highlights the vessels economic focus. This unusual design is not skin deep, as one of the primary features on board underwater lounge at the port side, allowing guests to look at marine life on one side and then a nine metre swimming pool on the other. Additionaly there are four large guest suites and one VIP stateroom with a balcony and open aft deck areas.

One of prominent similarities to her conceptual sister is savannah’s prominent wedge hull. This is a dry hull configuration with a vast freeboard, enabling Savannah to slice through high seas with the upmost comfort. And stability.

Savannah is yet another monumental achievement for the yard, involving more than 1000 people
